About us

Who are you?

We are four graphic designers, studying in, and operating out of, Trondheim, Norway.

Our names are Kim André Bøe, Vinh Martin Nguyen, Knut Synstad and Kent Skorstad.

One day, we decided we needed some practical experience and wanted to teach ourselves something new. So the next day we sat down and sketched out the plans for Bombyx.

What’s that then?

Bombyx is a collective design project.

The whole point of Bombyx is to take us out of the graphic designer comfort zone (within 3 feet of the nearest Mac) and force us to learn by getting our hands dirty and putting our ideas into motion. Bombyx is about challenging ourselves.

We are currently focusing on screenprinting and you can follow our progress on our main page, we try to update as often as time allows us.

If you have a great idea for a collaboration, or perhaps you have an awesome piece of work you’d like us to print, shoot us an e-mail. I’m sure we can work something out.

Why Bombyx?

Well, Bombyx is the name of the genus of true silk moths.

Back in the day, screen printing was done using mesh made from silk. Screen printers don’t use silk for their screens anymore, but we wanted to hint towards tradition… and we like words ending in an “x”.
